We know that recycling is good for the environment, but why? There are many reasons why recycling is an earth-friendly habit. Here are a few explanations as to why it is important to recycle as much as possible:
It conserves our resources
Why cut down more trees, use more oil and other resources when we can just recycle and reuse what was already created? Petroleum based products, such as plastics and some fabrics, should be recycled as much as possible because petroleum comes from oil, a dwindling resource.
It conserves our energy
Producing plastics, appliances, paper, glass wares and many other manufactured goods takes a lot of energy. Most of that energy comes from the burning of fossil fuels. Recycling cuts the need to produce more of these commodities and less energy is used.
It conserves land
Recycling reduces the amount of materials going into landfills, extending the length of time that a landfill can be used.
Recycling reduces the need for energy, which transfers into a decreased need to burn fossil fuels needed to provide energy. This in turn cuts down on the emission of pollution, carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases.
Good for the economy
When a company recycles, they reduce their waste costs and there are often tax benefits. Also, the recycling industry has created over 800,000 jobs and makes billions of dollars in sales.
